Benjamin E. Howen III
Rice Lake, WIBanner Title: Jon Thumb
Returning artist Benjamin Howen drew inspiration for this piece from
his grandfather, Everett Hollis. “My grandfather was always there for me
growing up. To this day, watching M*A*S*H reruns brings back fond memories
of the times we spent together. Col. Sherman Potter, whose famous ‘thumb’
painting inspired this entry, reminds me of him in so many ways. I lost my
grandfather to cancer a few years back, but watching M*A*S*H, it’s like
he’s here with me just like when I was a child.”

Liz Johnson
Rice Lake, WIBanner Title: Scarlet Sentinel
“I have always enjoyed the birds at the feeders outside our kitchen
window. The cardinals, with their brilliant scarlet color, are
fascinating. They seem to be bold yet hesitant when approaching the
feeder. They are a wonderful contrast to the snow in winter and the lush,
green leaves in summer.” Returning contributor Liz Johnson counts it “an
honor to help bring attention to our great Main Street." |

Judith A. Markgren
Rice Lake, WI BannerTitle: Holistic View
“I am in awe of the masters… Whistler, Monet, Rembrandt, Klee, Chuck
Close, Picasso… from composition to brushwork. All I can do is aspire to
work in some minuscule way toward their genius. This is a scene that
caught my attention walking home from the pool at 7:30 a.m.”
